Albert Einstein was an intensely curious and rebellious child. Rather than sit in a chair as told, Einstein would have questioned the chair’s function and tried to improve it – in this case, flipping it over so he could lie back, rest his feet, look at the stars, and ponder the universe.Furniture Design, Product Design2012 -
As text and instant message become dominant forms of communication, the English language is being altered and abbreviated for the sake of time and cost. Although text message language (or "textese") can be convenient, it can also be quite harmful to the vocabulary, grammar, and even thinking skills of young children; kids today are learning the abbreviations of words before they learn the words themselves. By embroidering this on-the-go shorthand into the slow, deliberate medium of a baby quilt, I hope to address the potential effects of text message language on future generations of children.

This video tells the story of how my paternal grandparents met and began a new life in Italy – and eventually New York – after surviving the Holocaust. Despite her advanced dementia, my grandmother, Frieda, who is now 89, still has an uncanny memory for the music she once loved. If you listen closely, you can hear her humming in the background.Animation, Motion Graphics, Typography2012 -
Stefan Sagmeister asked us to create a project based on something we've learned in our lives so far. Through the years, it's become clear to me that imperfections make life more interesting – not only in terms of ourselves and our bodies, but also when it comes to the creative process and our overall life course. I created this stop motion video, using only hair on the shower wall, to express this idea.Video Arts, Illustration, Typography2012 -
In light of the often cold and impersonal hospital experience these days, I chose to touch the hearts of patients recovering after orthopedic surgeries. I created personalized hospital "departure packs" to provide patients with comfort and security in the days after the operation; in addition, the packs included clear, uncomplicated instructions for continued care at home. The design is intended to hark back to the romantic days of medicine in the 1950s, and bring some of that warmth back into today's hospitals.Design, Graphic Design, Packaging2011 -
